Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Miss Melanie's Music Studio ("we," "us," or "the studio") collects through our scheduling app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep this simple: we collect only what we need to run the studio and communicate with enrolled students and/or their families, not for marketing purposes. We never sell your information.

Information we collect

Account and contact details you or your teacher provide: your name, your email address, and, if you choose to receive texts, your mobile number.
Your child's details: your child's name and, only where you or your teacher choose to provide them, date of birth, grade, school, home address and a photo. Only the name is required.
Teacher's notes: any notes your teacher chooses to keep about your child. They are not shown in the family's view of the app.
Lesson and scheduling data: lesson times, swaps, makeup requests, waitlist entries, and related notes needed to manage the studio schedule.
Consent records: whether you have agreed to receive text messages, and when you accepted the studio's terms.
Sign-in records: the email address (login) used for each change made to your or your child's schedule.
Messages sent: copies of the texts and emails the studio sends, kept as the studio's record of what was sent.

How we use it

To schedule and manage your child's lessons.
To send you the studio texts you have agreed to, and studio emails (see below).
To operate, secure, and support the app.

Text messaging (SMS)

If you opt in, we send text messages about time-sensitive scheduling: lesson swap requests, waitlist and makeup offers, and confirmations. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop texts, or HELP for help.

We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or your text-messaging opt-in information with any third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. Your consent to text messaging is used only to send you the studio messages described here.

Email

Your teacher sends studio emails, such as announcements, to the email address on file for the contacts she selects. To stop receiving them, tell your teacher.

How your information is stored and shared

Your information is held by these service providers, solely to run the studio app: Supabase (the app's database), Cloudflare (the website), Twilio (text messages), SMTP2GO (email) and GitHub (a locked backup copy of the database, made each night). We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with those providers as needed to deliver the service, or if required by law.

Within the app, your child's details and your contact details are seen only by your family, your teacher and the studio's administrators. Other enrolled families see only that a lesson time is taken and, when a swap is requested, your child's first name and last initial.

How long we keep it

We keep your information until we delete it, which we do when the student no longer takes lessons in the studio, or when a parent, guardian or adult student asks. When we delete a student's information, we keep only the student's name with the record of their past lessons, and the copies of messages already sent. Backup copies are deleted within 35 days.

Children

The studio teaches minors. Accounts are held and managed by a parent or guardian, who provides consent on the child's behalf. Apart from the child's name, the child's details listed above are recorded only where a parent, guardian or the teacher chooses to provide them.

Your choices

Stop texts at any time by replying STOP, and restart them by replying START.
Ask your teacher to stop sending you studio emails.
Ask your teacher to correct or remove your information.

Changes

We may update this policy; the effective date above will change when we do.
